On Sundays, our Nursery is staffed from 10:15 am until the end of the Sunday service. In our nursery area, located on the second floor near our Sunday School rooms, volunteers provide loving care for infants and activities for preschool children while their parents attend the service.
Note: For those in JK-grade 12, worship begins in the sanctuary. Young people leave the sanctuary after the “Learning with God’s Children” time in our Sunday services.
Our Wesley- Knox United Church Sunday School makes use of a Workshop Rotation Model. Most lessons are developed from the Deep Blue curriculum published by Cokesbury. Delivered by a committed and enthusiastic volunteer staff, this curriculum transforms Sunday mornings into a time of lively interactive learning. Each week leaders choose from a variety of lesson material that make use of drama, games, cooking, science, art, puppets, music, DVDs, spiritual practices and storytelling. The result is creative, engaging and often unconventional ways of exploring the stories in the Bible.
Children’s Worship is divided into two age groups:
Primary JK – grade 2
Junior – grades 3–5
From time to time, we operate in a multi-grade environment. This allows children to connect with broader peer groups, learn from one another, and provide opportunities for leadership and mentoring. Intergenerational worship, faith formation and fellowship events, family camp and summer day camps, and the annual Christmas Pageant are also important parts of what we do at WesleyKnox!
Grade 6, 7 and 8
Young people in grades 6–8 meet weekly upstairs in a Sunday School room. An active group, the young people and their leaders use a curriculum expertly tied together by the United Church of Canada New Creed.
YouthQuest—“Growing the Light of God in each of us!” YouthQuest is a Sunday gathering in which high school age young people explore scripture and discuss how scripture can apply to their everyday lives. This group meets in the Chapel during regular Sunday School times. All high-school age young people are welcome!
Confirmation is an opportunity for young people to confirm the promises made at their baptisms and to commit for themselves to a life of Christian Faith and Church membership. At Wesley-Knox confirmation classes are held for those in grade 8 and above, led by Rev. Tracy Crick-Butler. In recent years each of confirmands have each had a faith partner who supports and learns with them throughout each of their journeys. Classes allow those involved to ask questions, explore their faith, learn about the church and deepen their relationship with God. An information session for the young people and their families is held in late fall and a Confirmation Celebration is held during Sunday worship the following late spring.
