On Sundays, our Nursery is staffed from 10:15 am until the end of the Sunday service. In our nursery area, located on the second floor near our Sunday School rooms, volunteers provide loving care for infants and activities for preschool children while their parents attend the service.
Note: For those in JK-grade 12, worship begins in the sanctuary. Young people leave the sanctuary after the “Learning with God’s Children” time in our Sunday services.
Our Wesley-Knox United Church Sunday School develops lessons from the Godly Play curriculum, which is an imaginative approach to Christian nurture. It is based on the recognition that children have an innate sense of the presence of God, and uses story, play, ritual and creativity to enhance the child’s authentic experience of God. It contributes to the spiritual life of a child and assists children in making meaning in the world. Godly Play gives children a language to help them identify and express their spirituality so it can be explored and strengthened. Delivered by a committed and enthusiastic volunteer staff, this curriculum transforms Sunday mornings into a time of lively interactive learning. Each week leaders choose from a variety of lesson material that make use of drama, games, cooking, science, art, puppets, music, DVDs, spiritual practices and storytelling. The result is creative and engaging ways of exploring the stories in the Bible.
The Sunday School is divided into age groups as well as a multi-grade environment. This allows children to connect with broader peer groups, learn from one another, and provide opportunities for leadership and mentoring. Intergenerational worship, faith formation and fellowship events, family camp and summer day camps, and the annual Christmas Pageant are also important parts of what we do at Wesley-Knox!
YouthQuest is a Sunday gathering in which high school age young people explore scripture and discuss how scripture can apply to their everyday lives. This group meets in the Chapel during regular Sunday School times. All high-school age young people are welcome!
Confirmation is an opportunity for young people to confirm the promises made at their baptisms and to commit for themselves to a life of Christian Faith and Church membership. At Wesley-Knox confirmation classes are held for those in grade 8 and above each spring. In recent years, each of candidates have each had a faith partner who supports and learns with them throughout each of their journeys. Classes allow those involved to ask questions, explore their faith, learn about the church and deepen their relationship with God. An information session for the young people and their families is held in late fall and a Confirmation Celebration is held during Sunday worship the following late spring.
